CDC awards PQCNC as part of six State-Based PQCs Cooperative Agreement

In September 2014, in an extremely competitive process, the CDC awarded six states for the State-Based PQCs Cooperative Agreement (California, New York, Ohio, Illinois*, Massachusetts*, and North Carolina* - the new states are noted by asterisks).

Funding will enhance the capabilities of PQCs to improve perinatal outcomes by improving the quality of perinatal care in their states. These PQCs will improve the quality of perinatal care in these states by reducing maternal morbidity and mortality, reducing scheduled deliveries without a medical indication (also known as elective deliveries) before 39 weeks gestation, increasing use and documentation of use of antenatal steroids for impending preterm births, increasing breastfeeding rates, and reducing hospital-acquired neonatal infections.

The awarding of this grant is the result of the work of thousands involved in PQCNC activities across the state. In awarding this to North Carolina the CDC recognizes the achievements and leadership of PQCNC teams and stakeholders. This grant offers an outstanding opportunity to more formally partner with other states engaged in perinatal quality improvement work nationally.
