New Videos: Vector Control of Zika Virus and Clinical Updates in Care

7 years 4 months ago

Zika virus is a rapidly evolving virus that the healthcare community is struggling to keep pace with.  Currently Zika is largely focused in Southern Florida but has begun to spread to a larger area in the United States.  While the winter months will dampen the mosquito population in the northern states, the warmer climate of the south will continue to provide an sustainable environment for infected mosquitoes.

Healthcare providers need to be familiar with the signs and symptoms of exposure to the Zika virus as the negative sequelae of this exposure for newborns continues to expand and many maternal sequelae remain unknown.

J. Christopher Salter, Director of the Environmental Health Division of the Durham County Department of Public Health provides a scientific view of the history and spread of the Zika virus and Dr. Katie Davidson, a physician in Maternal-Fetal medicine practicing at Mission Hospital, provides the most recent advances in maternal and neonatal clinical care.
