Marty Scott to speak at PQCNC 2014 Annual Meeting

Dr. Scott is Vice President of Brenner Children’s Hospital - Wake Forest Baptist Health and Chief Patient Safety Officer - Wake Forest Baptist Health.  He completed his undergraduate work at David Lipscomb College in Nashville, and earned his medical degree at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. He received an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Dr. Scott served as a pediatric resident at the University of Louisville Affiliated Hospitals and Kosair Children’s Hospital. He was then selected for fellowship training in pediatric critical care at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital. He is board certified in pediatric critical care. Dr. Scott was a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at Mercer University School of Medicine. He is a certified patient safety officer and holds Six Sigma Black Belt certification for quality control expertise. Before going to Savannah, Dr. Scott was president and managing partner of Carolina Children’s Critical Care in Charlotte. He also spent two years as medical director of Coventry Healthcare of the Carolinas. In 1996, Dr. Scott created and co-owned HeathAnswers, Inc., a 24-hour nurse telephone advice and after-hours primary care triage company. The company was eventually sold to Carolinas Healthcare System and is still in use today. Scott, who is board certified in pediatric critical care, served as vice president for Patient Safety and Quality Initiatives at Memorial University Medical Center (MUMC) since 2007 and also held clinical responsibilities in the pediatric intensive care unit and sedation service.  He was previously director of patient safety and quality at the George and Marie Backus Children’s Hospital and the Women’s Health Institute at MUMC. Dr. Scott has led initiatives that reduced events of patient harm, reduced medication errors, and improved communication processes. He oversaw error-prevention training for Team Members and Medical Staff. He joined Wake Forest Baptist Health as vice president of Brenner Children’s Hospital (WFBH) in October 2010. A leader in children’s health care and administration, Scott serves as Brenner’s senior administrative executive. In July 2011, Dr. Scott was given additional responsibilities as Chief Patient Safety Officer for Wake Forest Baptist Health. As Chief Patient Safety Officer, he is responsible for ensuring our culture continually strives to be free from harm because of medical error. He has a joint faculty appointment as a pediatric intensivist within the departments of pediatrics and anesthesiology.
