Looking at North Carolina Health Systems and Hospitals as a whole, we have made remarkable progress with Patient and Family Engagement (PFE). In particular, we have a striking number of Patient and Family Advisor Programs across our state. We should be so proud of being leaders in this work!
As we look down the road, we are seeing powerful data to show that PFE work is highly impacted by the level of knowledge, skills and confidence our patients and families possess. This is called “Patient Activation.”
The concepts of Patient Activation were developed by Dr. Hibbard along with the Patient Activation Measure (PAM).
We are so honored and excited that Dr. Judy Hibbard is joining our North Carolina Quality Center's Special Speaker’s Series to help all of us in North Carolina think about how Patient Activation may give us missing pieces our PFE puzzle.
