The staff at CaroMont Health have published an excellent educational document titled Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome: A Guide for Families. This document is a detailed resource for parents of infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) providing information on what NAS is and how providers assess infants using Finnegan scoring. Further information is provided on what potential treatments may be provided to infants including medications, as well as, suggestions for how parents can support their infant while in the hospital and after discharge. The document also includes a list of local and national resources ranging from breastfeeding support to parenting resources.
