For smaller facilities participating in NHPC, hardwiring the practice of administering glucose gel to hypoglycemic infants is challenging simply because the volume of infants requiring gel is small. Elizabeth Rush, a nurse at Davis Regional Hospital, has been working on implementing glucose gel and created a storyboard for her staff to assist them in remembering the hypoglycemia algorithm and the process of gel administration. Staff and providers can reference the storyboard as it will be posted in the unit contributing to the sustainability of the practice.
