This month as part of our process of focusing our attenion on specific process improvements we zeroed in on sin-to-skin.  Each team designed a method, based on the needs, policies, and culture of their unit to increase awareness of skin-to-skin utilizing education for staff and parents, bulletin boards, posters, and kangaroo-athons(!).

Regrouping after our October learning sessions teams completed an inventory to better assess what types of services, protocols, and practices their hospital currently has in place. The results helped us to collectively focus our Phase III efforts over the next several months on specific areas we ail work on as a collaborative group to move the initiative forward.  Over the next few months we will focus on tightly on the following areas in turn:

  • Increasing Skin to Skin
  • Limiting Separation
  • Providing Excellent Breastfeeding support
  • Supporting / Encouraging Hand Expression
